Nobody will bother you on Sand Patch, just be mindful of the hunters.

I would just avoid Pittsburgh this week. The G20 Summit is going on and you have all those crazy wack-job anarchists there. My son goes to school in Pittsburgh and he said that the regular college students are really mad at these out of town protesters coming in walking all over the campus and being a disruptive pain. So, I think the security will be tight in Pittsburgh, but you should be okay on the West Slope and Sand Patch.

There were reports of eco-nutjobs burning tires to protest pollution.
???
To quote one of the great, late philosophers of the 20th century, Sam Kinnison:
"How does that work?"

Good guy "pennsy3570"'s caution about hunting season and the Sand Patch area is well taken.
Wear something flourescent orange, lest ye be mistaken for wildlife....(smile!)
The humbly named WGRF is having their meeting in Green Tree (just west of downtown)
and aside from the large number of French and German-speaking folks wandering around aimlessly
like so many Euro-weenies, no significant hassle as long as you stay the **** out of downtown which is essentially an armed camp with a reported 3 constabulary to 1 protestor ratio.

The police presence is very heavy in Pittsburgh and this is probably not the best time to test theories about the right to photography, especially near the Convention Center in Downtown Pittsburgh. I can hear the constant buzz of helicopters hovering over my neighborhood.

However, the summit will be over on Friday and by things should return to normal by this weekend.

As of 11:00 pm, about 20 protesters have been arrested. The most recent report is they've caused a lot of damage in the Oakland area where the University of Pittsburgh and Carnegie Mellon University are located.

Not mentioned in this article is that after a KFC place got hit, one of the protesters walked in asking the manager for a free meal. He said that he did not have any money because he wouldn't carry a wallet in order to not be identified in case of arrest. The manager declined his request.

Why the obnoxious reference? Having officials, delegates and others from European nations (and other nations as well) visit Pittsburgh is a good thing.

Sorry to step upon your toes.

A good thing for whom?

19.3 million taxpayer dollars spent just for security..for what?

Boondoggle!!

Good response from the manager. Not carrying ID and not carrying money are two different things. Where do these idiots get off?

As for WGRF, I always thought that name was tongue-in-cheek. In any case, I take it their shift from Labor Day weekend to early October is permanent? I knew it would be in Pittsburgh this year because they have done Pittsburgh every year ending in '9' since they started, but I haven't been to one since the last time they were in Pittsburgh....
