Point Of Rocks At Night

Good evening!

On the way home from work Monday I decided to take the long way around and stop at Point of Rocks, MD. These are the results from the evening.

Picture One:
January 3, 2011 1750 hrs
50 sec open shutter, ISO 200, f-stop 5.6
MARC Commuter Train P877 Makes Its stop with two tiered passenger cars.
Trainmaster Teddy waves from the second floor window to passengers and train crews.
The building was lightly painted with a spotlight

Picture Two:
January 3, 2011 1915 hrs
CSX Old Main Line Sub
Eastbound Coal train U833 exits the CSX Metropolitan Sub and enters the Old Main here in front of the station.
60 sec open shutter, ISO 125, f-stop 3.9

Picture Three:
January 3, 2011 1945 hrs
CSX Old Main Line Sub
Point of Rocks, MD
Route 28 & Rockhall Road
60 sec open shutter, ISO 125, f-stop 4
The third and final MARC evening train P895 to Frederick, MD rolls through this road crossing just east of town. This scene repeats itself Mon- Fri. The crossing gates come down, cars wait, train rolls through, gates go up, cars go on their merry way

Your wife has good taste, number four should be printed, matted and framed; not to small either!

Back in the 80s, they used to put candles in all the windows at Christmas time. :-(

Jon, you should return when they've replaced the roof. Gerry

Great images. Any particular post processing on them?

Thanks!

yes, mainly un-saturate as the whole area is lit by those brownish street lights and then bring down the exposure a tad. I tend to overexpose just a little so it leaves some room for correction at the end. The painting with a spot light also helps in that regard as it brings out the colors on the subject and darkens its surroundings. That fourth shot with the lights behind the station just accentuated the scene.

Jon,
I agree, this is a great photo of the station and I would love to have a copy myself.
Here in Point of Rocks, the Ruritan Club is circulating a memorial/petition to CSX to thank them for having plans to replace/repair the roof, and urge them to repair/restore the window that are in great need of re-glazing and all the wood sanded, caulked, and repainted.
Keeping this great lady alive and well is all our concern.
