Bill Gates buys into CSX Corp
Author: Lackawanna484

The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation is a huge public benefit organization which makes worldwide investments in health and safety for under served populations. It has brought clean water to many areas of Africa, and is a leading sponsor of efforts to end malaria. The BaMGF holds a range of stocks and bonds while researching grants and donations for its worldwide activities. Mr Gates has other investment vehicles for his personal wealth, including Cascade, an investment company.

CSX is a new holding for the charitable foundation. Its recent 13-F reports a $125mn stake in the railroad company. Relatively speaking, it's a very small share of the $25bn CSX company, and there's no evidence the foundation intends to seek changes in the company. The BaMGF already owns stakes in Canadian National and Fedex, among other shippers, and has not taken any actions to stimulate management.

Historians will note Mr and Mrs Gates chartered a private train for a tour of the western national parks as part of their wedding trip. They haven't repeated that kind of tour with CN, so I wouldn't expect a trip to Greenbrier resort, etc over CSX. Although it would be nice to speculate about. Does anyone know of a luxury train which operates between some eastern city and Greenbrier? <G>

More like "blue screen"

The BaMGF hasn't taken an activist role in any of its previous stock ownership positions, and I don't see any indications they plan to push CSX

How about CNA Chessie North America? Then when they merge with a Canadian railroad they just add a tuque on Chessie's head and we're good to go.

Gates will probably buy CSX so he'll have something to wager with Warren the next time they get together for one of their well-known bridge games.....
