Eastern Railroad Discussion > CSX 1603 on Q365 tonight. Heads up South!

Caught new Railpower RP20CD CSXT 1603 built by TMS in Altoona, PA on Q365. I had no idea this was on Q365 until the Lima yardmaster said something to the crew as they passed the yard tower. That was the only heads up I had. Currently, Q365 is tied down at South Erie siding with CSX 8111, 8535 and 1603 in order.

1603 was orginally CSXT 8340 SD40-2; originally CRR 3006 SD40; f/n 5710-7. history from Altoonaworks.info.


First is CSX 365 passing Q241 with hardcore air problems.

Second is rear shot of 1603 and third is a going away shot of 1603.

Yes it will. Probably about 20 years in my curmudgeonly case.

The 3rd such unit assigned to Queensgate Yard in Cincinnati. They're not exactly the most popular trim engines, but it takes some shaking around to get the bugs out. Hopefully they won't ship the SD40-2's out of the yard until these 1600's can be trusted.

One of the Gen Sets that is used up in Michigan was the trailing unit on 507 last night and passed through Lima as well.
