Sexton Foods, Pennsylvania
Author: slugbug

noticed a sharp new Walthers model car--a 50' North american smoothside insulated boxcar, lettered for NADX #50164 with the Sexton Foods herald, with a return route stencil which reads: when empty return to the Sexton Company, McKees Rocks, PA

Does anyone have any information on the Sexton company? What did they ship? Are they still in business?

thanks

Sexton is/was one of the large food service companies serving instituional markets, largely in the eastern U.S. It was in tyhe same league as Sysco, PYA/Monarch, and others. A.E. Sexton, which may be related, has/had a presence in Malvern, PA. I believe it is now part of Rykoff-Sexton.

I believe that Sexton merged with Rykoff some years ago. I think they may have been headquartered in or near Chicago. I went to school with a Sexton who lived in Winnetka and whose father was the president or CEO of Sexton foods as I recall.
