Eastern Railroad Discussion > Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1?Date: 03/07/01 12:46 Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1? Author: cdub Here's a good question for all you Chessie and CSX fans. What is the difference between the GP15T, all of which were purchased by the Chessie and now reside on CSX rails, and the GP15-1, which Conrail, CNW, Frisco and Missouri Pacific originally purchased?
The only difference I can see is that the GP15T's have dynamic brakes and the GP15-1s don't. But that can't be the reason for the difference in the model designations, or can it? Also, does anyone know how many GP15Ts Chessie purchased (was it B&O, C&O or both?) and what years they were built? Thanks for any info! Date: 03/07/01 12:52 RE: Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1? Author: rwallen7 Our gp-15t's are 8 cylinder turbo engines and gp15t-1'a from Conrail are 16 cylinder blower engines

Author: rwallen7 Bear with me having compuiter trouble,Our GP15T's are 8 cylinder turbo equipped angines and the GP15t-1's we inherited from Conrail are 16 cylinder blower engines. The chessie units have dynamic brake and some of the blower units do not. I work for CSX
Date: 03/07/01 13:03 RE: Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1? Author: hectrain GP15T get their 1500HP from an 8 cylinder turbocharged 645 engine, where the GP15-1 has a 12 cylinder normal aspirated 645 engine.
All the GP15T's were C&O sublettered and numbered 1500-1524. Date: 03/07/01 13:09 RE: Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1? Author: redneckrailfan Chessie was not the only railroad to purchase the GP15T. Apalachicola Northern aquired 3 units as well. Chessie owned 25 of the units. The GP15T was powered by a turbocharged 8 cylinder 645 series prime mover while the GP15-1 was powered by a 12 cylinder non-turbocharged prime mover.
Bryan Date: 03/07/01 14:01 RE: Difference Between GP15T and GP15-1? Author: SSW9389 Thanks redneck, saw those AN GP15Ts on the coal train that used to run from Port St. Joe to Chattahoochee, FL. AN #720-722 are still rostered by that road, but they have recently sold off eight other locos due to lack of traffic.

Author: rocket630 The CSX (C&O) GP15T's have mostly run on the New Rock Sub which is the ex-RI trackage from Blue Island to Henry, Il, although I'm sure they've been elsewhere too. I remember seeing them when they first got them. They looked so much better in the Chessie paint, but they still sound great!
