MGA 8025 at Dravosburg, PA.
Author: jmbreitigan

Hi, early this morning I saw the post on TO by wmfan 3798 ( Heads up the MGA heading to old MGA). I figured why not give it a go. I am not real familiar with the Mon Line past West Elizabeth so I found a descent spot close to CP LIZ at around 09:00 and waited. I keep track of wmfan3798's post on my smart phone. Thanks to him and PittsburgMike and others I was able to keep abreast of things. Unfortunately I was not able to log on to TO and could not contribute to the thread. I saw 510 go by north bound loaded with coal. I also watched C07 go by headed for Conway with SA 1065 in the mix of power. An old Conrail holdout was in the mix of power too. Train consisted of mixed freight. After lots of walking around and sitting I hear the Shire Oaks yardmaster talking to NS 8025 on train 561. I heard bits and pieces about calling a cab and then a time of 16:30. He was sitting at MP 20 in Dravosburg. I was sore from sitting and we decided to go to Dravosburg. We arrived at 15:30 and there the train sat with the bright afternoon sun almost dead on the nose of 8025. I was able to get off several shots. Nice when the train is sitting still. It was a long day and I was concerned we would come up empty but it worked out in the end. Here are some pictures of our day.

1. 510 with NS# 9714 on point northbound has just passed CP LIZ, located by that big All Crane Rental of Pennsylvania building.

2. C07 headed to Conway with a NS 5406, a Conrail holdout in the mix of power. Yep, I chopped the nose off : (

3. SA 1065 also in the power mix on C07

Hey John great job ! I'm sooo jealous, You got the MGA unit. Well four is a good day. I see you got the Conrail Q unit anyhow. It was afternoon shift when I saw it pass work. Glad you got it. Thanks for sharing.

Congrats on the great shots.

I was so near, yet so far as I stopped my northbound trek at Shire Oaks.

Grrrrr!

Oh well, gives incentive to try again.

I'm not about to be persuaded that an SD50 in tattered Conrail paint is a "heritage unit," but that takes nothing away from your photographic success here....

Very well done. Do you mind if I save the Conrail one to my conrail folder on my PC? This will be a part of an album I am putting together for my Dad of more Conrail blue pictures.

Thank you all for the kind words. Seeing the SA 1065 was a surprise to me. If not for that call from the Shire Oaks yardmaster to 8025 I would have called it a day and missed it.
