DST ends with afternoon pictures from Ashland, VA
Author: RNinRVR

This past Saturday I decided to celebrate the end of daylight savings for this year by catching the late afternoon trains through Ashland, VA. I spent 2.25 hours up there and was rewarded with 2 CSX trains along with 4 Amtrak, shown here http://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?4,2912557. My first CSX catch was general manifest Q406 coming north from Acca yard. This is a Rocky Mount, NC to Philadelphia train which usually carries the orange trash containers from the Philly area to dump sites in North Carolina. Also on these 2 CSX trains, the leaders were ES40DC but the trailing power on both was a nice mix of older GE power.

First up is ES40DC 5351 coming by me at Howard St.

Following along behind the 5351 was this C40-8 7567 yet to be repainted into the YN3 style

Next is a shot of the 2 units as they move away from me up S. Center St. in Ashland

We next see the last car of Q406 as it moves north and a lady with a nice dog who paused to give me a lick on the hand

About 50 minutes after Q406 cleared north the scanner came back to life and I heard a train calling signals but never understood what the crew was saying. It turned out to be Q141, the new symbol for the Juice Train. Leading was another GEVo 5227 shown here as he passes me.

Second unit was this CW60AC 638 still sporting YN2 paint with the highlighted 'CSX' on the side which adorned the CW60's.

Last unit on Q141 was CW44AH 580 repainted into YN3

The last of the Tropicana reefers passes me

Now here is the video of both trains

Thanks for watching and enjoy safe train spotting.
