Ex-DTSL engines
Author: chapmaja

Does anyone know what happened to the ex-Detroit and Toleod Shore Line Engines once they were retired from service on the Grand Trunk. I know at least 1 survived as Pigeon River Railroad (#47??). This was last known to be on the Indiana Northeastern. The GP-7 numbers on GT were 6041-6050. The SW-7's were # 6116-6118. The Sw-9's were 6119-6121. I also have it listed that 6116-6121 (ex 116-121) were all SW-7's and that they were re-classed as SW1200's. The lasted info I have lists none of the ex-DTSL units on the roster as of 1994. Any help would be appriaicted.

I'm thinking that Indiana Northeastern has two of the geeps.

I have verifiable pictures of #47 on the INRR, however the only other engines I've heard of on the property are 1601-1603 which are listed as GP-9's and ex-HCRR 1770. The history on the units is unlisted. However the HCRR had 4 engines numbered 1600-1603, listed as GP-7R's. I don't know when these engines werepurchased, however I believe the history says they are ex-Reading engines.

The INER GP9's are former Burlington Northern. I remember seeing them before they were repainted. Black paint was an improvement.

As of a couple years ago the 47 was still lettered PGRV (Pigeon River) even though it was in the INER's general pool.

My memory could be failing me but, I'm quite sure that these HCRR engines were all Paducah rebuilt's. At least they all had those distinctive downturned air intake nozzles on top of the hood. I don't think D&TSL had any from Paducah.

Yes, the HCRR does have the downturned air intakes, I have attached a picture found on a website.

I have found pictures that show at least DTSL 119 and 121 made it to new numbers and paint schemes. Did the other's make it or not?
