Nice article.

The NY Times version had pictures of the Madison station, the Plainfield station, and Red Bank. The Express building at Madison was leased for many years by Tom Taber, who was a widely respected rail historian and writer. He wrote extensively on the DL&W and maintained his research library there.

In one of his books, he explained he would often volunteer to fire a DL&W steamer from Hoboken to Scranton as a way to relieve stress.

It is good to see that NJT is preserving some of the old stations along their lines. A truly valuable one was lost on the North Jersey Coast Line when the Manasquan station burned down in 1996. I would like to see Matawan station (also on the NJCL) preserved as well as Spring Lake. Both stations still stand, but are in private hands. Sea Girt station has been converted into the town library, so that one should be safe.
