progress of NS Erie Pa. street trackage project
Author: brakeshoe75

The removal of NS trackage on 19th street in Erie, Pa. was to be completed in September, but rumors are saying that the project may be nearing completion soon in August. Does anyone know if there is any truth to this rumor? One thought was to get the job done before the school session begins so that the need for the crossing guards at several of the intersecting streets would be eliminiated. On a visit in May, the grade to the new alignment at Ash Street was all that was completed and boy, will it be steep! What other progress has been made? A visit is in order, so I'd like to know what to expect beforehand. Thanks in advance.

Roadbed and track are in place at the east end of the new line, but the connections at the west end have yet to be completed. The roadbed is more or less in place, and the rails have been dropped at the west end, but the track has not yet been ballasted.

August 20th was mentioned, not sure how accurate that would be.

In the pursuit of a separate inquiry, I asked a Norfolk Southern spokesman how soon the cutover in Erie was expected to be made. He said late September is still the valid schedule.

Heard something at the office that sounded like the end of August.
