Someone has a new toy. :-)

It's a HP S20xi Photosmart slide scanner--FINALLY!

The attached photo is a "normal" scan from a print to 800x600. The link, however, is to a scan of the negative. It is an incredible 2048x1536 and is a whopping 483kb in size (caution dial-up surfers): <a href="http://www.trainweb.org/cnotp/to/special.jpg&quot;&gt;Massive Version</a>

Now I gotta go start shooting slide film....

While we're playing with new toys, here's a shot taken with toys from two different generations. Photo taken with a Nikon D1H, lighting is Sylvania flashbulbs.

Well, the only problem is that Trainweb is soon going to be slapping ugly banners on top of EVERY page hosted on their servers. They will also no like the file sizes associated with any photos larger than 800x600.

It looks like I might need to find a host that doesn't charge too much and provides about a half a gig of server space....

I'd like to get a halfway decent but not too expensive digital camera... Ideas?

Great picture, Jeff. I have a Microtek scanner, but since upgrading to Windows XP, I'm not sure if it will work at all since it is no longer supported.

Another addition to the wish list!

Hey, nice job! That looks really good considering it came from a print.

Nice shot! The 8430 looks great in black, especially with the red class lights. These units look so different with their low numberboards.

For those of us shopping....

where did you get it and how much did you pay for the scanner?

Pretty good quality.

Camera shoppers...

It looks like digital camera quality may change big-time when the Foveon X3 chip hits the market. I'd hold off a while for this quantum leap to flow into the marketplace.

$444 at www.buy.com with free shipping. Worth every penny, too.

As far as waiting for quantum leaps go, if you want to wait for the technology to arrive before you start taking photos then wait. If you already have a ton of slides (and even negatives) or want to shoot now and not wait for a couple of years for a new product to drop to mass-market prices, then don't wait.
