NS Detectors Still Announcing "Conrail"
Author: nsrailfan

How many detectors are still announcing "Conrail", since the June 1, 1999 merger? I know of one... NS Buffalo Line, "Monty DED", milepost 238.0. Any others?

My days on the BNSF still had detectors calling off "BN Detector" as recently as 2000......5 yrs after the merger.

Yes, we still have a dragging equipment detector close to Sevier Yard that announces "Southern Railway dragging equipment". I heard it go off not more than 3 months ago..

The CSX Trenton Line DED at MP 14 here in Philly still announces Conrail. The info I've been given from some others is that the rest of the detectors on the line also still say Conrail.

The detector at CP-Belt (Reading, Pa.) is still in Conrail mode.

Yeah, but take note of how many times the damn thing is ever right on the axle count. It's not worth replacing the audio....

Yeah, BELT is the only one I know of on NS lines. CSXT has yet to change over many of them. Some up towards Selkirk (Scotia, Hudson View, West Springfield, etc) have been changed over to read CSXT milepost ___, and so on.

All of the detectors on the Chicago Line from Chicago to Cleveland now read NS. The Cleveland detector east of Drawbridge still reads Conrail, as do most other detectors on the CSX side. The Cleveland Line and Fort Wayne Line detectors also read NS at least as far as Sewickley. I can't tell you if they have been changed past that point.

Where's this one at? Is it on the ex-B&O Indy Sub or maybe the ex-B&O St. Louis line? I don't think it'd be on the B&O main into Chicago, and I don't think there's enough of the old C&O in Indiana left to rate a defect detector.

Thanks,
Dave
