Vintage rolling stock at Conway Yard - on the move to..
Author: PLERR

There were four vintage boxcars in Conway Yard that were used for parts storage. They were on the west end of the yard, near what I believe was the westward spot repair shop. I was able to get clear roster shots of them last June, though it was dusk at the time so I had to utilize a fair amount of post processing to get a clean image.

Last week I saw the yellow (ex-PRR MOW?) and CR box cars sitting in 4 yard. I don't know where they've gone after that. Today the MDT reefer and the unmarked grey boxcar are in the same spot in 4 yard.

Does anyone know the fate of these cars? The MDT car was remarkable for how clean it was. Since were talking NS here, I'm hoping they're off to a museum or preservation organization as opposed to the scrapper. I would love to see the CRHS get the boxcar. Thanks in advance for your help.

1. Yellow ex-PRR MOW?

2. Conrail 270396

3. MDT reefer 11945

Is that gray car an X29? Odd to see a car that old with ladders cut down, etc.

Ice hatches? Very nice. That car should go to a museum to be preserved. That Conrail boxcar has quite a bit of rust...

CSX and BNSF won't move cars with friction bearings. Will NS?

As of this morning the ice hatch car was laying on its side deep inside of the yard. There is NO DOUBT that this car is in the process of being scrapped in place. no idea where the other cars are.
