Yup. Have been fer awhile. Nice shot. Did George take that one or from a collection. Didn't think he was old enough. -Or- maybe he was the youngest train photog. around.
George's Mom: "Honey, would you get little Georgie his Argus with Kodachrome, he wants to take a picture of the silly train again."
George's Dad: Awww, tell him to crawl over there and get it himself fer cryin' out loud."

You bet we are out here-probably lots of us!As proof that I'm not a closet L&N fan, witness one of the results of a trip to see L&N Alcos.I was not about to complain about 4 SD-40s,even back then,so I took the shot of 1204 3557 1225 and 3562 resting under the former coal dock in Lloyal,Ky June 1978,with not an Alco to be seen.As with that very cool shot above, the gray with yellow nose paint scheme was a classic.I would guess that when the Old Reliable went to that solid gray dip just prior to the Family Lines merger there was a good bit of complaining, not unlike todays mild uproar in regards to some recently introduced colors! Thanks for sharing this one!RAD

Here is a recent shot of L&N E6 #770. A sad sight.

Many of the people who will be attending the Railfan Hootenanny (Decatur, AL) this Saturday are big L&N fans.

Nice picture. Do you know were that was taken? Is that the Pan American? My brother in law used to work for the L&N in Louisville. Used to go to the railroad owned golf course next to the main and watch the trains all day. nsrayman wrote:

I'd give anything to see 770 Restored at KRM. As one of only 2 E6'S left in the country, it would be a crown jewel..of course, it would take money, she is looking sad, missing a prime mover, and I believe a traction motor, but none the less, a grand sight next to 152 at KRM..My good friend is the old executive director at KRM, and said he projected it would take 700,000 to see her restored...if only i can win the lottery!

770 costs ??????
Author: scapegoat

700,000 thousand to restore? Why so much? That's unreal. Unless of course there is alot of body damage not shown in the pictures.
With the amount of Sd-40-2's going to scrap RTO traction motors are cheap. It propablly came with an A or a B block at best. Running 12 cyl bc take outs aren't all that expensive. If you hunt c blocks are out there at a fair price.
We've brought some REAL junk back to life for next to nothing.

I used to ride the L&N from bay Minette, AL down to Foley, AL in the late 70's, early 80's when my grandfather was the station agent at the Robertsdale depot. Of course, now you can't take cab rides and you're lucky to find a caboose, much less one with a cupola. I was 3 when I took my 1st cab ride. Those were the days.
