Eastern Railroad Discussion > ID of two HLCX locomotivesDate: 07/08/02 05:05 ID of two HLCX locomotives Author: OCtrainguy While at Bound Brook, NJ recently railfanning the Lehigh Line, I saw two HLCX locomotives on a CSX light power move. They appeared to be GE units, but I am not sure. The units were 6902 in a red/blue paint scheme and 6803 in a black paint scheme. What types of locomotives were they? I would like to make sure I properly ID them. Thanks for all the help.

HLCX 6902 is also a C36-7E, but I'm unsure of its history, but it's possibly an ex HLCX 6700 series C30-7 thats been rebuilt, or another one of HLCX's C30-7s, C36-7s. I'm sure someone will know. It was formerly HLGX C36-7E #6802, prior to that was an NS C30-7 and originally an NW unit. Following rebuilding to C36-7E specs the unit was wrecked while leased to CSX and the cab and nose were destroyed. The locomotive was shipped back to Metro East Industries in St.Louis,MO. and rebuilt with the cab and nose from an ex ATSF C30-7, recieved a further electrical upgrade and was repainted into the Helm paint scheme from the patched NS black it had worn. I've got photos of the unit while it was enroute to MEI for rebuilding following the wreck. There are only 2 Helm GE's in the blue and maroon paint, HLCX C36-8M's #6900 and 6902. Bryan Jones |
