Esquimalt and Nanaimo Rwy Nanaimo depot
Author: ENRailway

Originally the northern terminus for the E&N Railway Nanaimo had the second largest station on the E&N at that time. This is the second station to serve the Nanaimo area, it was built in 1920 replacing the old Dunsmuir-era building that was built in 1886. For a building that's 80 years old, and has never seen a renovation, its in great shape. VIA Rail leases the building of the Canadian Pacific Railway. CP claims VIA is responsible for upkeep of the building, and VIA claims CPR is responsible. With the two companies disputing this, no work is being done on the building. The City of Nanaimo stepped in after the fire and cosmetically fixed the building. Nanaimo remains a crew change point for crews operating the passenger trains. Relief crews meet the northbound train at Nanaimo, take the train north to Courtenay, and back south to Victoria, they return to Nanaimo the next day with the passenger train and another crew takes the train from there.
