NS GP-40-2 repainted
Author: GAP

Leading NS 49-J thru Kalamazoo yesterday was NS GP-40-2 #3068 repainted into black. This is a very recent repaint, but it did not have the new design where the horse is incorporated into the "N," as discussed on this board a few weeks ago. Hmmm...

If people are getting the new logo images from the NS website, I wouldn't think that it will be used on locomotives and freight cars in the future. I think it's just another one of those fun rumors.......................

Also looks like NS is starting up the repaints again. Seems as if repainting went dormant for a while..

I'm sure if NS is going to start a new image, they'll roll it out on some new power, not on a repaint.

I recall seeing the 3068 repainted some time ago. Can anyone confirm?

NS had reported "officially" that they were unveiling a new logo, i.e.; the new one with the horse head incorporated in the logo, as seen on their website. This was concurrent with their intention to buy 50 new SD70M locos, starting delivery after the end of the year. They said the new scheme will be unveiled on these units. The speculation came from another "prominent" railroad news source that they were to begin applying it to repaints soon, once the proper lettering was stocked at Altoona and elsewhere. So it isn't just someone's pipedream as some people seem to insist on surmising on this board. Just because it hasn't plopped out of the engine house yet, doesn't mean that it isn't going to happen.

Yes, the 5019 was one of a number of NS units leased for use at the auto mixing centers. Those locomotives are operated at the mixing centers by non-union contractors that handle the switching operations.

I saw the 49J leave Jackson about 7:30am that morning; it was in "fresh" NS paint, sans the enhanced logo. If I recall, there was only one other ITCS-equipped GP40-2 in NS colors to date.
The 48J/X8J on Saturday had a pair of UP "flag" SD70Ms and 100 cars out of Hartung; 351 burned up some extra time at the station and waited at CP Hill for them to get by. X8J went east out of Jackson after 353 with a handful of 86' parts cars.

Safety first,
Ian

Debut of New Logos

CP's new beaver logo wasn't debuted on a new engine, that was a GP.

CSX debuted its latest livery on a 1980s vintage SD50 repainted at Huntington Shops, while new GE units dressed in the Bright Future scheme continued to roll out of Erie for a short time thereafter.

But if NS wants its new logo to debut on new engines, I suspect the company will make sure it happens that way.
