What do you think is the ugliest rebuilt locomtive? ...Bradley Date: 01/23/03 14:07 Re: Ugly duckling Author: junctiontower How about any EMD re-engined Baldwin?
Date: 01/23/03 15:00 Re: Ugly duckling Author: chico ANY CF7
Date: 01/23/03 15:08 Re: Ugly duckling Author: rpc21 C&NW Crandall Cab
Date: 01/23/03 15:55 Re: Ugly duckling Author: Larry576 CF7s hands down. Other butt ugly creations would include ATSF GP7U\'s and GP9U\'s with the angled cab. Plus MEC 471 that crewcab GP7M they once had.
Larry Date: 01/23/03 16:15 Re: Ugly duckling Author: wabash2800 One of those "Crandal" E units made by C&NW from a UP B unit. I would presume they are all gone?
Date: 01/23/03 17:07 Re: Ugly duckling Author: Badger I would say one of these two...MK rebuilt an odd-ball with roll up engine compartment doors that looked similar to CN\'s "SWeep", and Sulzer powered. My other one would be Espees Sulzer powered U25B\'s.
...Bradley Date: 01/23/03 19:39 Re: Ugly duckling Author: NYC_L4a Another vote for the CF-7. "Crandall cab" E-units get "honorable mention".
Date: 01/24/03 04:25 Re: Ugly duckling Author: Throttle_JCKY My vote would be
Seaboard\'s BQ\'s CF7 Crandell Cabs (what about the German Hydro\'s SP tested?) Date: 01/24/03 09:44 Re: Ugly duckling Author: 20thCENTURYLIMITED The rebuilt RS-3\'s that Conrail slaughtered when they re-engined with the EMD 567\'s.
Date: 01/24/03 10:00 Re: Ugly duckling Author: rs36 A bit farther back than most of you remember, ACL had some ALCO S-series switchers rebuilt with EMD engines. The resulting hood bulges and mismatched hood sections make you think of an obese locomotive. Most survived into SCL, and several still work for various industrial operations.
On the other hand, I like the FRISCO RS2s with the ALCO frame, cab and short hood, and the EMD geep long hood. Really neat looking units, although I recall the crews still disliked them operationally. Date: 01/24/03 10:18 Re: Ugly duckling Author: 20thCENTURYLIMITED One more! The Rock Island\'s RS-3\'s they rebuilt with a EMD 567 and the long hood from a early GP. They had to use the GP hood for clearence when they put the rebuilt 567 engine on the alco frame.
