Conrail Merger Question

Okay, Question on the Merger.. What would be the final possible date that the Conrail Merger could have fallen though..

I know the SP and ATSF were painting locomotives early, and the merger fell though..

Would it have been possible for the Conrail merger to fall though, after Conrail took delivery of the CSX SD70MACs and NS SD70s

Trying to justify having SD70MACs and SD70s without the Conrail Merger..

The Surface Transportation Board issued its final ruling of approval on August 23, 1998. The units you mention all had been ordered by then, so your no-merger roster fantasy would have been possible.

...and your point is? Initial problems notwithstanding, the STB isn\'t going to suddenly decide in August that the Conrail transaction was a bad idea and order it undone.
