Osborne and Tilford Yards
Author: AC6000

With the humps being closed at both facilities has traffic patterns changed? Abolishments, rerouted, etc? How are operations now?

Thank you

Louisville's Osborn Yard has seen little change since it was converted to flat switching. It retained most of its trains. However, Tilford Yard saw a good deal of its traffic diverted to other yards. It still handles Atlanta local traffic and a handful of road trains.

Wow - nothing from Hamlet into Tilford anymore. Wonder if the traffic goes over to Boyles (Birmingham) or Radnor (Nashville) to get switched before coming back? I wonder if the number of thru trains, stopping for a crew change at Tilford, has decreased with these symbols moving over to the Birmingham route?

Thanks for all that good info. I'll just add that CSX symbol system has Q200 series trains as solid multilevel trains, and yes, many of them are not daily or run as needed. it would be nice to see such a train list from the Stanley and Hamlet humps also supposedly closed by now. That means EHH has closed humps at four of CSX's twelve hump yards. BUt only the humps. Flat switching survives. Curious how much money that really saves. What is the status of Cumberland, heard the hump was to close Apr 18, but then not.

Hamlet Yard is still adjusting to the changes. I've noticed more trains being shifted to other yards in the past few days, so I'd expect Hamlet to lose a few more when it's all said and done. Stanley Yard actually saw relatively few changes.

I noticed the absence of the Q698/Q699 Cincinnati-Hamlet trains from the Hamlet list. These trains were just reinstated a few weeks ago. Have they been abolished already?

I also noticed that the Hamlet-Columbia Q463/Q464 trains are not on the Hamlet list. Do you know how local traffic is moving into Columbia now?

Yep, they were abolished again! Very short lived!

Q463 / Q464 is currently now Columbia - Florence.

Hamlet supposedly lost the Q400 (though the Q401 is still running) but looking at the Rocky Mount -> Richmond lineup this morning, I see a Q40019 on there. So either Hamlet got it back or it's coming out of somewhere else.

Q400 is now Waycross - Cumberland and Q401 is now Cumberland - Waycross.

Are the Q463/Q464 running via the Hamlet and Andrews Subdivisions or the Eastover and Lane Subdivisions to reach Florence? The routing by way of the Hamlet and Andrews Subdivisions would require a backup move through the connection in the NW quadrant or a runaround move at Hamlet.

Looks like they're taking the Eastover Sub. So it looks like the only traffic on the Hamlet Sub heading south out of Hamlet is Amtrak 91 and 92.
