NS C40-8W DC to AC Conversions

Apparently NS is starting another DC to AC conversion program with C40-8Ws. NS 8356 has been sent to Juniata for AC conversion.

Neither the AltoonaWorks website nor the NSDash9 website have any indication of this. NS Dash 9-40C 8865 is in the process of being rebuilt according to NSDash9. I wonder if someone didn't fat finger the keyboard!

They'll probably both mention the D8-40CW conversions eventually.

Never say never. Still with all the engineering already done on the Dash 9 to AC4400 program and over 1000 potential cores, I have my doubts about a Dash 8 based program. It is made much more difficult due to the fact that GE never engineered an AC Dash 8.

Preliminary info I have is that it was listed that way in the computer system by mistake. At any rate, NS 8356 has not yet been retired.

According to Railfan & Railroad magazine, the rebuild program to make the units into Dash 8.5CW models has been scuttled.

More than likely, this project will NOT happen. So please, confirm before posting.
