Eastern Railroad Discussion > Harpers Ferry WB passenger station restorationDate: 04/21/17 07:17 Harpers Ferry WB passenger station restoration Author: Pattenburg A while back there was a thread on TO that talked about the restoration of the westbound passenger station at Harpers Ferry (WVA). The link for that thread is found below:
https://www.trainorders.com/discussion/read.php?2,4103441,4106581#msg-4106581 I was curious to see what was done to that station on my recent visit to Harpers Ferry. I was surprised at how good it now looks compared to what it once was. With that I now present a brief pictorial history of this station facility over the years. Photo 1-The date is August 8, 1966 as the structure looks in good shape. The sign stating "Harpers Ferry" is hanging to inform passengers what station they are at. Behind it is a boundary marker for West Virginia's state line. With the amount of vegetation that now exists I have to wonder if that boundary marker is still there? Photo 2- Fast forward to April 3, 2015 and the station seems to be still holding its own despite some very visible signs of a leaning structure. The Harpers Ferry sign has been replaced by a faded Amtrak sign. Not visible in this image is the state line marker. Does it still stand? Photo 3- Two years later and its a bright new day and future for that westbound passenger station on April 13, 2017 as CSX 224 leads an empty hopper train past the structure. I too am glad that they finally restored that building as it was really in sad shape. Do the MARC Commuter trains also stop there, the one's that go up to and from Martinsburg, West Virginia?
