Which Trains On Cleveland Line & Erie West Sub Tank Trains?
Author: cornerfieldhobby

I figured out that tank cars with placard 1267 are crude oil. 1203, 3475, 1987 & 1170 are Ethanol. Which placard numbers are for Alcohol Trains? Also do to now the Crude Oil trains are dissapearing along the CSX Erie West Sub that I heard of, which CSX Train Symbols are Crude Oil, Ethanol and Alchohol now? Also which symbols are Crude Oil, Ethanol and Alcohol on the NS Cleveland Line and Lake Erie District?

I ask because recently I caught K637 in Mentor which is an Alcohol train and I don't know the placard number for Alcohol.

Ethanol is a form of alcohol. K637 is an empty ethanol train.

The ethanol in the trains you see is diluted ("denatured") with a small amount of gasoline to make the product non-drinkable.

The 1987 placard applies to all alcohols, not just ethanol: https://cameochemicals.noaa.gov/unna/1987

1203 is Gasoline.

And I've never seen 1170 or 3475 on a unit ethanol train, either. The UN listing I just consulted shows 3475 as a gasoline/ethanol mixture with more than 10% ethanol.
