Southern Vacation: Day 9, Sunrail and More
Author: Ohiorailfan

Day 9 of my southern trip I started in Sanford, Florida to see the Sunrail and a few industry engines. After Sanford I spent most of the day with my Grandpa. Once we left my Grandpa's we stopped at Ocala and shot a Florida Central CF7 and GP7

PRLX GMD1 at a cement factory north of Sanford

Those drawbridge shots are great. Drone? Also, it looks like there's a big bird's nest on the lift span.

US-17, to be specific.

It's the St. John's River, though, not the St. James.

Where does that Yelvington GP30 live?

Great shots, thanks for sharing them.

Yelvington has several locations in the Sanford - Jacksonville stretch. I've seen their engines hauling sand north past the autotrain terminal, and working a sand pit just north of the St Johns River bridge, east of the railroad. The GP30 has also worked the sand transfer facility inside the CSX Jacksonville yard.

There must be some kind of trackage rights agreement, as I've seen them waiting on the siding btw Sunrail's Sanford station and their engine house, too.

At first I had to question this, because CSX would never let
a local industry locomotive on their mainline.BUT,CSX does
not own the line any longer,so does CFRC do so?

Great shots all! Wish I had the time to do some train shooting after I arrived on AutoTrain and before leaving that afternoon from Orlando Airport. It took 3 hours of wrong Amtrak driving instructions between both!!! Orlando, itself, is a scene out of a bad sci-fi movie on what America will become, only it became that already! But, nice trains I'll say!
