Both Q696 and Q697 are now abolished.

On the Clinchfield they were replaced by 692/693

So I guess this means that the CSX F461 will handle traffic that needs to get out of Charlotte, Monroe, or Hamlet up to Kingsport? Or was that just a one off?

This is very interesting as I haven't seen neither train in a few days come by my house. Have been wondering what was happening. Will they run at sporadic times or will there be a schedule they will run by?

The F461 will probably run as needed to Bostic. 696 and 697 appear to be history, sadly.

The most important non-coal customer on the old Clinchfield was Eastman Tennessee Company (ie Kodak) at Kingsport, TN. Since the northern end of CRR was shut down by CSX over a year ago I see more ETCX tank and CH car go thru DE. I know the destination of some, and it must be slow and very circuitous. But with the service described by the post person it has to be even worse.

Q696/697 also carried the important traffic for the Celanese plant at Forster on the southern portion of the Clinchfield. That traffic went out on the southern local out of Bostic to Spartanburg and back. I would like to see how the local is going to work the PPG plant in Shelby as well. Maybe I will be able to catch it there.

Q696/697 must be invisible and silent because the only thing I see on the C&O end up here on the Big Sandy Sub are occasional Unit Coal Trains and a short local! I actually miss seeing Q696/697 and the Grain Extras that used to run through. I remember in the Chessie System days this line was insanely busy!

Judging by your username I assume you live near Prestonsburg? Lol.. I see at least 2-3 trains a day go up or down the Sandy, but at odd times. Sometimes 3 will meet at WD Cabin, sometimes one will run in the morning eastbound then loads will come off in the evening.

The last Q696/697 that ran from Hamlet,NC to Kingsport,TN ran last week. They have been replaced by Q692/693 running between Waycross,GA and Kingsport,TN.
