Does anyone know when these will start running? This is for the new pig iron contract the plant will be starting soon.

Harold, I did not know this was going to start. I'm curious to know, which route will they take to Lorain, because to Lorain is NS unless somewhere there CSX has trackage rights.

CSX has trackage rights post-Conrail into the Lorain steel mill - it just hasn't used them. Whether they would need to use the CL&W to get to NS, I don't know ... but it sure would be a boost for that branch if they do.

Not for awhile. Last I heard it was just in the proposal stage.

The furnaces have been idle for quite some time....lots of work to do before they start worrying about ore.

If you are talking about the material that will come out of the currently closed Reynolds IN plant on the ex-Monon, there is serious talk that assuming this comes to pass, material will move TPW Logansport NS, not out via CSXT like when it when to Ashland KY

Interesting....Chicago Line to Elyria then up the branch through Avon? Or would it go NKP to South Lorain?

TPW can service Magnetation in Reynolds IN. So, a bargaining war between CSX and NS? Will be interesting to see how it shakes out.
The CL&W sub from Lester to Lorain will need tie replacement work.

I was going by previous remarks on T.O. that CSX had the contract. In that case, the trains would either come via Sterling or Parma. If NS ends up handling ore, I would assume it would move to the LT via the NKP out of Bellevue. The runner from Elyria is essentially unused at present. In the past, ore came in on boats. I was expecting to see this again.

Ore by boat is how a direct-reduced iron plant Cleveland-Cliffs plans for Toledo is expected to get its raw material, with the output traveling by truck or train. But if the Lorain plant is getting concentrate from Magnetation in Reynolds rather than taconite pellets from Minnesota, that would explain the inbound rail move.
