Why was train turned in ATL? Perhaps heading for Savannah and NS did not want to run train around the loop in Macon.

I can't think of any other explanation. The SD40-2 must have coupled on at Howell Tower. For those who don't know, a southbound train on the ex-Southern into Macon is pointed in the opposite direction from the ex-CofG out of Macon toward Savannah.

Besides running the way around through Brosnan Yard, couldn't they have wyed the train at Bay St?

I don't think NS has put passenger cars on the Bay st wye in years.

One of Southern's first SD40-2s from 1972, although rebuilt. Familiar horn.
