Eastern Railroad Discussion > Back after a hiatus....

It has been a couple of years since I last posted here on TO....been occupied with other things but I am about to begin a new chapter in my life which includes fulfilling a long time goal.

My past postings here focused on elevated views of CSX in the Hudson Valley of NY along with photoessays from railfanning trips to the NS West Slope.

I have sold my home in the Hudson Valley of NY and am nearing the closing phase of a home purchase on the NS West Slope in PA....

I will give more details on the general location of this home once I am handed the keys and deed in the near future but suffice it to say that it is in a nice location.....View of tracks are obscured by trees but I will be within a couple minute walk to trackside and sitting on a small deck on the property, I will be able to hear heavy Eastbounds clawing their way up the steep West Slope grade toward me.

So...with all that being said, I expect to contribute more in the way of posts and photos from the NS Pittsburgh Line once I get settled in....

Thanks Dan....One major positive out of this will be lower taxes....My property taxes in NY in one year equate to about 13 years of taxes on the new property in PA....Dave W.

The income and property tax burden of living in NY NJ CT is amazing, and once you leave, you just shake your head. With HOA fees and FL resident taxes, I'm paying about 10% of what I paid in NJ for a newer, bigger, and nicer house.

If they ever change the federal tax code to eliminate the deduction / subsidy for local property and income taxes, the burden will be horrific in the northeast (and CA IL etc).

Hope you enjoy your new home, and am also looking forward to your future post of activity up there, although I will continue to lament the loss of your posts from the Hudson Valley. I hope the winter treats you well in the highlands of Central PA!!!!

I met you over Labor Day Weekend at the Station Inn. You were just going to look at the property then, I was on the porch. My name is Graham.

Yes...I remember you...I took an immediate liking to the property...As I am in the process of cleaning up the house in NY, I found a Real Estate folder dating back to 2006 that I had filed away when I had looked at three properties on the West Slope at the time...Dave W.
