Eastern Railroad Discussion > Will NS rebuild the EX Conrail SD60s to SD60Es?Date: 09/25/17 14:19 Will NS rebuild the EX Conrail SD60s to SD60Es? Author: railfaneric Good Afternoon everyone. Will NS convert the former Conrail SD60 locomotives into SD60E locomotives? I see NS hasn't done the former Conrail SD60s yet.
Date: 09/25/17 14:46 Re: Will NS rebuild the EX Conrail SD60s to SD60Es? Author: NSDash9 At this point, no further SD60E rebuilds are planned, but of course that could change in the future.

I still hear conflicting info on this. That had been a long range plan, but there has yet to be confirmation that the SD70ACU program will continue through to its completion next year, nor whether it will transition into a similar SD80ACU program. Have they been reliable or filled with bugs or other issues?

Now they seem to work as intended. I see them in all kinds of service. SantaFeRuss Posted from Android Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 09/25/17 20:30 by SantaFeRuss. Author: PRR1361 My NS engineer friend says that the SD60E's are very noisy, due to the HVAC duct's location under the cab floor. On the other hand, he loves the UP rebuilds, says they are great in every respect. He's happy that NS replaced the desk-top control stand with the current AAR types per the new EMD's.

They are nowhere near as loud as they used to be, at one time they were quite bad. They are still loud inside, but no worse than a regular SD60M/SD70M anymore, IMHO the SD70M-2/ACE without the isolated cab are louder. When EMD first came out with the SD70ace (non-isolated cabs), I couldn't believe how loud they were inside the cab. Seemed ridiculous at that day and age to release a new product that was so loud in the cab... |
