CSX Santa Train at Copper Creek & more on its 75th Anniversary
Author: Rathole

Photo 1 - A scene of the CSX Santa Train at Copper Creek on Saturday Nov 18, 2017, which is located between Gate City and Clinchport, VA. Climbing up the hillside to get to this spot is not the easiest task in the world, but is sure is a nice view once you get there.

Photo 2 - Bluegrass entertainer Ricky Skaggs (on the far right), this year's celebrity guest on the Santa Train, helps toss out soft, plush toys into the crowd at Clinchco, Virginia. Box trucks at each stop distribute clothing, food, and other items to several economically depressed cities and towns along the 110 mile run of this train each fall.

Photo 3 - The Santa Train passes Union Baptist Church in Dante, Virginia as it makes its stop here.

CSX shop forces in Huntington, West Virginia applied a fresh coat of paint to former Clinchfield Railroad F3A #800 earlier this month. In addition, a little electrical trouble shooting by CSX electricians and mechanical dept folks from Southern Appalachia Railway Museum in Oak Ridge, Tennessee got this true heritage engine running in tip-top shape. Also the M5 horn on the 800 was voiced to perfection by another SARM member - it was the perfect horn for this run as Clinchfield F-units did use the M5.

Some very nice images there. Nice to see that CSXT continues with this tradition.
