Strangers (UP #4448 & NS #7677) Leading Q316-20 - 22 Nov. 2017
Author: DTWilson

Sitting at the house I normally don't hear eastbound trains until they call the signal at Keyser, this day was no exception. Late in the morning Q316-20 arrived at Keyser, WV stopping to pick-up the eastbound cars out of the yard there. So when Q316 signed off with "UP #4448 Out" after calling they had come to a stop at the EAS, it was time to head over for some photos.

1) By the time I arrived, the power (UP #4448 leader, NS #7677 Trailing, along with 8 other Various CSX Units) had cut away from their train and headed into the east yard. Stopped at the Yard Office while the Conductor picks up the paperwork, the power will use track RC#2 to run around their pick-up on track RC#1 in the east yard.

2) NS #7677

3) Running around their pick up in the East Yard.

... more to follow ...

1) Q316-20 shoving their pick-up out of the east yard. They will cross both mains and shove out onto track #1 alongside their train. Once clear of the plant, they will cross over to track #2 pulling forward before finally backing against the rest of their train east of the OS on track #2.

2) Typically this time of day would have the sun broadside to the train at this part of their trip... but today was heavy overcast. Back together and heading east to Cumberland, MD. Q316-20 eastbound at 21st. Bridge Road, MD.

3) My final shot of the chase. Q316-20 eastbound at the Rebecca Road Crossing near Pinto, MD.

Thank You All... !

NS100 ... Eastbound photos at Rebecca Rd. Crossing only has decent lighting on the nose of the units in the very early morning and that is from the other side of the tracks. Typically on sunny days, depending on the time of day a eastbound train is either coming right out of the sun or the sun is broadside to the train.... one of the reasons I don't have a problem shooting on overcast days.

Great shots, Tim. And, as usual, a superbly detailed description of operations on the Mountain Sub. Thanks for sharing.
