The CROW, Clevelands Steel Mill

A few from the CROW yesterday morning. Multiple movements in the first hour we were there.

Nice,

Reminds me of the Lehigh & Hudson River paint scheme colors!

Great pics. Looks like the same junk running around when I was there decades ago. Then the RT (River Terminal). I do miss coke ovens 1 and 2.
These locos never got an oil change...just add as needed.

Pardon my west coast ignorance but where does "the crow" come from?

The railroad's official reporting marks are "CWRO" for Cleveland Works Railroad Operation, or something along those lines. 100% owned, controlled and staffed by Mittal, but has a conventional railroad reporting mark.

Well CWRO looks like CROW, and it went from there I guess.

This operation took over what was left of the old Cuyahoga Valley (CV) and River Terminal (RT) operations of the Cleveland steel mills after the collapse and resurgence of the Cleveland steel mills in the early 2000s.

Just to avoid some confusion. The Cuyahoga Valley (CV) has nothing to do with the Scenic railroad the CVSR up river.

This looks like the old Republic Steel River Terminal Railroad where my uncle worked for 30 years.

They used to call him at all hours to open that bridge in your picture.

Is it still easy to drive around down there. Was always amazed there were public roads
in the flats.

Thanks for posting.

Note about the Crow - it is one of the railroads we must give a special "THANK YOU" for allowing NKP 765 to get to the CVSR. The other railroads are NS AND CSX (yes, that's right).
