1 fatality being reported. (Not onboard). Rep Mark Walker (NC) on Fox, "looks like truck was trying to beat train...".

Re: Republican retreat train incident

On Fox, Rep Pete Sessions (TX) "train was traveling around 70mph.". More... "lots of bumps on the head" "concussion protocol" a focus of first responders to passengers.

Amtrak engine #4 (and rear of train) is seen on the TV screen, crashed unit was Amtrak Heritage loco n the front.

On Fox, Rep Jeff Denham (CA) "lead engine derailed." "Three people in truck, 1 fatality". "Very high speed collision" "went from 70 to 0 in a couple hundred feet"

On Fox, Rand Paul on his anti train "govt RR" rant while on the couch.

Once again, like in Seattle recently, the optics of a train crash outweigh the actual damage to life and limb. Respects to the truck driver who lost a life perhaps trying to beat a train at the crossing and those WA victims.

Rep. Jason Lewis (MN) "I was slightly injured." "The Shock of the cossision...severe, lots of people standing in aisle were thrown". "Cars are heated..truck got stopped in between..."

Respects to the truck driver? Why?

Rachel Duffy, Fox contributor, wife of Rep. Sean Duffy (WI) and mother of 8 kids onboard who were riding "harrowing experience...looking out the windows at (injured/dead) drivers"

Situation awareness in beginning was tight...fear of possible explosion, asking why this crossing might not have been shut down by Capitol Police. (In advance of the train)

Since this train was more a social function than a pure transit move, a lot of the passengers were up and milling about. So far, no one has mentioned "no seat belts". Such an obvious safety feature not on train coaches.

Rep. Byrne (R AL) "I'd say a minimum of 300 people onboard."

My sympathies to the train crew and anyone else who witnessed another apparently selfish and arrogant act of trying to beat a train.

Rep Jeb Hensarling (TX). "The train is moving backwards towards Charlottesville" at a slow pace (restricted speed?)

2 taken off the train. 2 crew taken to local hospital.

Not too sure trains go tooling through Crozet at 70 mph...

Um, perhaps because he might be the one from the truck that's deceased?
