Adventures Along the Lake NY-PA-OH
Author: train1275

Haven't been out in a while so it was time on Saturday February 17, 2018 to get back into it. Saturday morning started really bad, poor light, bad luck, and bad decisions. But after lunch things started to turn around.

1. The CP Man with CP 9592 comes west through Conneaut, Ohio past the old Lake Shore & Michigan Southern depot and NKP 755 in early afternoon.

2. Further east at North East, PA CitiRail 1338 makes an imposing appearance on a westbound

3. A new train for me in chasing this territory is this 14M a Pittsburgh - Buffalo job with NS 8388, UP 4696 and a cool BC Rail 4692 trailing. This train came up the Youngstown line into Ashtabula and ran around to head east on the NKP. Here it is eastbound on the NKP crossing 20 mile trestle just west of the PA / NY State Line heading for Buffalo.

4. The 14M had a brief stop at Ripley, NY so it was possible to get to Westfield to catch it coming over the Chautauqua Gorge bridge in very fading light

5. The next day was a late start but got this NS 287 mty autos headed west with CN 8884 and 2125 over 20 Mile Trestle

6. Moving further west to Ashtabula and caught this mixed freight coming east over the trestle. Not sure what train this might have been. NS 2760 leading.

Another view of the trestle at Ashtabula on the former NKP

After catching the train at Ashtabula it was back to see what the situation was at Conneaut. The 287 was in the hole east of town and a quick check of the B&LE docks did not yield anything promising. But knowing there were trains both east and west, staking out at the NS bridge over Conneaut Creek seemed to make the most sense. Suddenly a deep rumble was heard to the north. CSX ? Holy crap !! It was the B&LE !!

BLE 905 pokes out of the yard and under the NS. Suddenly a horn on NS to the west. Could it be ?

NS 22K comes over top with the 1091 leading. Yeah I know I was a little late in shooting this and the lead unit got tangled up in the tree brush, but hey I'll live with it.

A closer look at B&LE 905, a nice treat and a disappearing scene in the CN years of B&LE operations.

At Westfield, NY for the last shot of the day - CSX 968 leads a train east out of the setting sun and golden after glow of a good weekend.

Ditto on the "fantastic photos", I especially like the over/under. Odds of that are astronomical. Well done.

Like your photos with the B & LE locomotives, but your concluding photo is wonderful. Also symbolic with the sun setting on the old style ex-NYC signals.
