NS MOW Dining Car From The 1930's
Author: NSSpike

The "Spirit Of Tim Drake"
For sure not after the fictional superhero in the DC Comics Series Red Robin

In my travels this weekend I ran up on another set of camp cars tied down in the house track north of Inman Yard Atlanta Georgia. Buried deep within the gangs living quarters was an older dining car “Spirit Of Tim Drake” NW 521414 a Harriman Award Winner car. Coupled up next to it was the gangs Kitchen Car # CR62829. Assuming a former Conrail Kitchen?
A search on the internet provided some additional background with an interior photo thanks to the Fort Wayne Railfan site.

Thanks for the shot.
Nice to see heavyweight cars still in MOW service.

It's one of six ex-Pullman 12-1's N&W had: "The only 12-1's which were certain to be red were the six cars which N&W acquired after the breakup of the Pullman Co. in 1948. These were Chilhowie, Galax, Lowry, Sunstar Rose, Vulcan, and Cuttyhunk."

Hats off to NS (or maybe N&W) for making some real effort to make the interior of the car nice in appearance.

The could trade up to one of Amtrak's heritage diners.

Judging from the track in the foreground they have been doing a fine job. BSB
