I followed Mohawk, Adirondack & Northern's run today on the road's Utica-Lyons Falls, NY branch. The freight included 44 tank cars to be stored near Lyons Falls, 45 miles north of Utica.

No. 2042 was the lead unit and it kicked up impressive plumes of snow.

I got "dusted" twice. It was great fun.

Rather curious as to what was going on at 1:20 with that tank car kicking up so much snow.

I'm told it was an old brake shoe that a car knocker put in the truck frame; the MOW guys removed it shortly after this footage was taken.

Definitely kicked up the snow.
Trainman on the tank car had a cold 9 Mile ride.
Thanks for posting.

I'm really enjoying your Utica videos and realizing how much I don't miss the Midwest winters!

Someone should send this video to Amtrak, to see if they can learn how run trains in the snow.

....I remember that my Dad had to go to work no matter how much snow we had in the Albany, NY area....both NYC and PC....he did not mark off....

One of my employees took Amtrak the other day on the Corridor to New York...the heat was off more than it was on....and he could not get home on Amtrak because they decided to shut down. Cost me a fortune to put him up in a Midtown Manhattan hotel for 2 days and 2 nights...

If they cannot do the job...de-fund it and start over....trash the junk they are running and let someone who knows how to run a railroad in the snow take over....maybe we could have two completely different operations...."Amtrak April-October", and "Amtrak November-March". Same train crews....different equipment and management.

Great video. I'm curious about why the M-420's plow kicks the snow much higher on the engineman's side. The plow must be bent.

Why are they storing tank cars if CN needs them up N for crude transport? Unless they are for a different commodity.

John, thanks for all that you post to remind me of days long gone by in the Mohawk Valley and surrounding area. Really enjoyed that one. My wife is from Watertown and we have been away from snow country for a long time, and thanks for the reminders. Happy St. Patrick's Day. Did Matts brew a special for today?

Freezing the video a few times, they seem to be LPG tank cars.

My, gosh. My wife is right. The Canadians are taking over the Northeast, with the help of a ghost railroad, BC Rail! LOL.
