Pure Luck - W&LE Rio Grande GP40-3 #302 & High Hood GP35-3 #110

This was pure luck this morning. I had to get a haircut in the area and driving back I noticed a W&LE freight heading south. Well I pulled in parking lot of Glenwillow Grille and got out and noticed that there were 2 units pushing 663 south into the siding crossing Pettibone Rd. Well as the units got closer, sure enough, it was W&LE Rio Grande GP40-3 #302 and W&LE High Hood GP35-3 #110. Anyway, I knew he would come back north after dropping the first 10 cars. So I walked over to the W&LE Glenwillow Depot and sat on one of there benches and waited for him to come back north. So I got some photos as he was backing north and that was the best part because the sun came out. Well they switched the switch after out of the siding and came back south. Well along the way just before Pettibone, they stopped and one crewman got out and checked the siding switch and then got back on and then continued south and then after that, I left and we to my families business - Corner Field Model Railroad Museum & Hobby Shop which opens at 11AM. I saw him in Glenwillow at 9:30AM. Anyway, I did see a report the previous day about 663 having 302, but I had no clue as I was driving at that moment coming there, the crossing gates were starting and here he comes. Totally surprised. Anyway, cool to see Rio Grande.

Great coverage from an area that does not see that many photos posted.

Thank you Bob. Yea, it's a needle in a hay stack sometimes to catch a train running at this spot. I was just very lucky. I do know usually during weekdays and on Saturday, 663 usually runs through between 8AM to 10:30AM, but sometimes I've been there at that time and nothing went through.

Nice photos and catches. How often does CCR run. I guess that is their base of operations?

Pretty cool. One of they execs from D&RGW moved over to the W&LE years later.

The ex D&RGW GP40 there was bought second hand circa 1983/84. Are there any original D&RGW untils still running on the W&LE?

Cheers, Jim

I'm not exactly totally sure, but I've seen them work sometimes after 3:30PM.
