Ok, I haven't asked on here in a while for a question and this is a question I cannot anwser for myself. I looked on heritage units this morning and see N&W 8103 is trailing on eastbound 66X. So the question I ask, is actually 2.

1. How many different symbols for tank trains are there for East and Westbounds on the Cleveland Line?

2. And for each symbol, which ones are crude oil, ethanol, fertilizer or etc.?

I know eastbounds are loaded and westbounds are empty. But I was curious the symbols to the trains and what liquid material each is hauling.

NS 66X is crude oil from Chicago to Reybold, Delaware.

I have a Hazmat App in my phone. Type in the number and see what's in the car. It will only scare you.

Symbol is actually 66Z.

Until they change again, all 64-/65- trains on NS are ethanol and all 66-/67- trains on NS are crude oil.

And now that I've exposed this particular secret, expect a change any day now. ;)

Look at the hazmat placard on the tank car. Number 1267 is crude oil. Number 1987 or 1170 is ethanol. Keep this info on my railfan clipboard.

Placard 1993 can also be used for crude oil, usually very heavy or ultra heavy crude, but also dilbit (diluted bitumen) can be too if the API gravity rating is less than 10.

Ok, thank you to everyone who replied. This helps. Yea, I did know about the placards, but wasn't sure if the symbols had anything to the material. Thanks.
