Eastern Railroad Discussion > No rubble left behind at ATL tower siteDate: 06/22/18 09:22 No rubble left behind at ATL tower site Author: NKPSOUTHERN Well they did a quick job and didn't leave much but a bare spot where the tower used to be. However there seems to be something going on at the old NS building near by.

Appreciate it. I wonder who actual owns the old Southern Railway buildings now. Sure looks like they are being gutted for renovation. NS sold the buildings last year. Despite what the webpage says, they were never the official corporate HQ of Southern or NS. What happens to the Nelson St viaduct remains to be seen. The viaduct would make a good pedestrian bridge and train watching spot if they chose to leave it standing. I know it's been closed to car traffic for a while but don't know for how how long. It's being reconstructed for condos and lofts, I'm sure rent will be about 1,500 to 1,800 a month for those interested. It's a absolute saying that the powers that be let the tower deteriorate to such a capacity. It was meant to be saved in 1972 when Terminal Station was leveled. The one section of platform canopy that remains is not from the original 1903 built Arena, that one section of station canopy that remains was put there to serve the Man O'War and Nancy Hanks during their last days from the late 60s. That area originally was the u.s. mail and rea platforms.

It's now owned by a private developer. The city never held title. |
