Eastern Railroad Discussion > NS unit ethanol symbolDate: 08/05/18 17:33 NS unit ethanol symbol Author: WM_1109 Can anyone help with a symbol/origin/destination of a very subtantial unit train of (presumably) ethanol, eastbound by Horseshoe Curve on Saturday, 08/04/18, at 11:23 AM EDT? Without counting, I'm guessing 80 cars. All cars were placarded UN 1987 (alcohols, n.o.s.). Power on the head end was NS 9708, 8928, 1128, with two SD40E's (6333, 6327) on the rear.
Thanks, Ted Date: 08/05/18 17:51 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: DJ-12 Ethanol trains are usually 64Ks.
Posted from iPhone Date: 08/05/18 19:21 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: mp109 Here it is further east at about m.p. 124.4 at 3:27. Symbol I heard was 64K. (I think, my note isn't too clear.)
64K goes to Port Reading, N.J., according to my source. Edited 1 time(s). Last edit at 08/05/18 19:39 by mp109. Date: 08/06/18 03:17 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: Model_L I saw this train in Cresson at 10:35 and wrote down 64R in my notes based on what I heard on radio.

Date: 08/06/18 06:31 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: florida581 It was 64R (Bluffton, IN - Reybold, DE).
Andrew Date: 08/06/18 07:01 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: WM_1109 Thanks for the replies. I'll post some video in this thread, if I can figure out how to pare it down to a reasonable length. The train took a full 5 minutes to negotiate HSC, at (I'm guessing) 10-15 mph.
Did anyone happen to get a car count or hear an axle count? =Ted Date: 08/06/18 09:18 Re: NS unit ethanol symbol Author: mp109 OK, 64R, that's what I wrote first, but looking at my note it looked like it might have been a K and there was no 64R listed in my reference chart!
