Eastern Railroad Discussion > Sunday in HarrisburgDate: 08/13/18 14:59 Sunday in Harrisburg Author: mp109 Managed to get out on Sunday for a while. A few observations follow.
1. NS train 12R comes off the Lurgan line and passes c.p. Paxton next to the Amtrak station a couple minutes before Amtrak no. 43 is due to leave. 2. Amtrak no. 43, the westbound Pennsylvanian waiting at the dwarf signal, for 12R to pass. They are barely clear of the station platform. Why the dispatcher ran 12R first, I don't know. (Maybe we can blame it on auto router or movement planner, which a dispatcher called "movement preventer".) 3. Here is the stone train; H-60 which runs from the quarry near Annville to Enola and return. Today the crew told the dispatcher that they were to drop these loaded cars in Enola and return some empties and take the power to Reading. The motive power is interesting in that the leader is an SD60 standard cab engine that escaped the SD60E program. That program has been stopped, apparently so NS can concentrate on the AC to DC conversion program, probably feeling that one to be more useful. Edited 1 time(s). You don't often see BNSF engines in the lead position at this spot because leaders on the Pittsburgh line need cab signals. However this
is a light power move of three engines, two BNSF and one NS coming out of the Harrisburg yard and heading to Rutherford yard on the Harrisburg line which doesn't require cab signals. This power is interesting in that it is an ET44C4. Notice the large radiator section, which seems to be a characteristic of tier 4 engines. 5. This is the third engine a Dash 9-44CW, which should feel at home with its many NS "brothers". 6. A bonus; the PRR heritage unit was on trash train 63V, but it came through too late, so here it is on the same day in 2015, on a less smelly train! Edited 1 time(s).
