Following the wettest summer on record in the Alleghenies, the first frost (not freeze) occurred on Friday morning, October 19.  These factors have combined to produce no color on the mountain.  Here, these pictures illustrate my disappointment.  Will there be some late color? Doubtful.

Always enjoy your photos Roger.  Just know it could be worse, I'm in south Georgia where its nothing but pine trees!

I certainly miss the change of seasons on Sandpatch and Cumberland.

Here's the latest map from PA DCNR. They show Somerset County at "Best Color" for 10/18-10/24, so it's not looking good.

I was on the mountain on Tues 10/16, and your photos show the (disappointing) conditions perfectly.

Climate change sucks. This is what happens when its in the mid 80's well into mid October.

Indeed. One of the hallmarks of climate change is persistent short-term instability. Both the heat & humidity as well as the !@#$ rainfall have been quite excessive around here for me.

I'm aware this sort of thing varies greatly by location. But speaking solely for my own little part of the Northeast, with "summer" having now routinely become far closer to ~5 months long (late May through mid-October) instead of just 3, adjustments are not merely unpleasant but also unavoidable.

I really miss autumn colors that (1) are vibrant & reasonably reliable, and (2) that I don't have to drive over 140 miles one-way to view.
Here's a toast: to better luck for autumn 2019!
