Florida East Coast LNG ES44 823 - any news?
Author: Lackawanna484

LNG locomotive apparently blew a cylinder head a few weeks ago, and has been out of service since.  Various GP40-2 units have substituted in its place with a tender equipped ES44 on road trains.  Any news on what happened?

I'm curious because these locomotives hve been modified to run on a mixture of natural gas and diesel fuel.  They can also run on straight diesel if required, but not on straight gas.  I think they're limited to 40% in the gas mix.

GE uses a "Port Injection" scheme using 80% NG and 20% diesel fuel.  See attached.

Here's the article that appeared in "Railway Age" last year.  https://www.railwayage.com/mechanical/locomotives/fec-rolls-out-lng/
