How serious was Southern in plans to electrify the CNO&TP?

Serious enough that tunnels at Nemo bored during the 60s line changes were made tall enough to support catenary.

Roughly 20 feet wide and 30 feet tall.

During the Energy Crisis in the 1970's, a number of railroads looked at electrification including the Southern.  SR management showed great foresight in the early '60's regarding clearances in the Second District improvements.

I don't think TO will let me post the link but the Classic Trains website has a nice summary of various US electrification proposals.  A quick Google search should lead to the article that includes maps (took me 5 seconds).
