Eastern Railroad Discussion > Vermilion OH Photo Shoot

It was a balmy 63 degrees in Vermilion OH on the south shore of Lake Erie on Sunday December 2, 2018. Vermilion is between Cleveland and Toledo on the old New York Central and between Bellevue and Cleveland on the former NKP, both lines now operated by NS.

A few samples:

1. GECX 7714 leads NS intermodal Train 205 through town on the old NYC.

2. NS 4089 rolls east and I think that maybe the LV Heritage came along on the far side, "something red" in any case in the blocked consist. The pitfalls of two trains at once.

3. NS 9248 and 9321 on containers west over the Vermilion River on the Central.

Here comes NS Train 14N an Elkhart to Conway train with a nice consist of; NS 8072, PRLX 622, CIT 6027, NS 2613 and CNO&TP sub-lettered GP38-2 #5237

Photos 7-9. A little later an eastbound comes through with a nice cut of flats loaded with John Deere tractors.

10. & 11.  NS 7638 is westbound on loaded coal at Coen Road.

12. NS 9671 west then comes along at Coen with mixed freight.

13. At Risden Road west of town, one crossing over from Coen Road, looking west where the NKP to NYC connector cuts in. Rails all rust on the connector.

14. Looking east towards Vermilion on the old NYC with the connector arcing off to the south towards the former NKP.

15. NS 1170 with NS 9542 comes west on the Central at Risden with the unused connector in the foreground.

So does anyone know what the plan is for the new connection?

I don't think there is a plan for it right now. I guess we are all waiting on the big PSR announcement on 2/11/19.
