Eastern Railroad Discussion > 1700 Miles, 2 Days, 4 Santa Trains. NYLE, GVT, INRD, and HOS

This weekend my friend and I made quite the trip as we left Columbus Saturday morning for the greater Buffalo area. The 2 goals for the day were the New York and Lake Erie Christmas Train and Medina Railroad Museum's Polar Express. We started in Gowanda, NY with the NYLE. The train was setup differently compared to previous years with the S1 on the south end and the FPA2/FPA4 pair on the north end. We caught it as much as we could between Gowanda and Dayton. These engines only run once or twice a year so to see them running was a sight to see. After that we headed to Gasport to see the Polar Express arrive. Power for the train was Falls Road RS32 #2035 and RS11 #1802. We followed the train back to Medina where we photographed the 2 NYC E8A's that sit on display. We then headed back to Columbus and crashed for a few hours at my place before waking up the next morning and heading to Illinois. Sunday started at Newton, Illinois where INRD made their first stop with their Santa Train. Power for this train was INRD SD40-2's #4005 and #4002. Once it left Newton we followed to Oblong where it made a stop before heading to Palestine. We headed for a lunch break in Robinson and caught the train shortly after at a crossing just east of Robinson. Our last stop was Tell City to see the other Indiana Transportation Museum's Polar Express train running. The train ran from Tell City to Troy and back with Hoosier Southern GP7 #467 and IPH GP40PH-2 #4135. That's our weekend in a nutshell. Enjoy!
