Looking for help on a Southern location in VA
Author: nydepot

I'm trying to understand where a photo is taken that says passes "through historic Manassas Gap at Belle Meade VA". Google isn't really showing anything for Belle Meade. Any idea where this location would be on the Southern? Thanks.

Are you looking at Page 37 of the new Southern Railway book ?

I was wondering the same thing. I thought I had track charts but can't seem to find them ..... thinking it is just west of Manssas Jct. but curious also.

That location is on the B Line (former Manassas Gap Railroad) near Linden, VA.  Used to be a prime photo location during the southern/NS steam excursion program, now it is completely treed in.

Maybe here? There are white fences around that farm north of the tracks.

OK, if you have the book, how about page 160?

Can't answer that either (Page 160) although I think it appeared maybe in an old TRAINS or CTC Board issue. It's somewhere not too far removed from Gate City, VA apparently, or up to the north towards Andover. Not sure what is meant by the Goose Neck I think that was mentioned. I tried google earth and searching on the internet for Gate City, Andover, Natural Tunnel etc and got only one hit but unidentified as to location.

Overall I enjoy the book but wish it had more older images. Small criticism really, it is very well done.

Found the location of the photo on Page 160.
Eastbound at Dan'l Boone , VA

It was at listed captioned as such on the cover of the May 1991 issue of CTC Board Magazine. A good article by the way.
