USMC "Toys for Tots" train in Flanders (NJ)
Author: Pattenburg

decided to head up to Flanders to photograph the last stop of the day on Saturday of Dover & Rockaway RR's Toys for Tots train. After dropping off my gift inside in one of the boxes that was set up inside the fire house, I was off trackside to wait for the train. It was nice to see a large contingent of parents and children gathering on what was a cold and snowy day to donate for those less fortunate kids at this time of the year. As for the train, NS 3010 (ex-CR 3289) brought the train to a stop adjacent to the Flanders Fire Company & Rescue Squad Building. The first image shows the train's conductor about to dismount in order to flag the Main Street grade crossing. That second image shows people dropping off their gifts for storage in a boxcar painted in USMC colors. DRRV's 1823 (GP10) was on the tail end with its paint scheme to honor NJ's veterans along with CR caboose 21303 and NYC Lounge Car 43. Quite a unique consist for a good cause that traveled over the former CNJ High Bridge Branch on this day!

Two nice paint jobs, thanks for sharing them.  I don't believe I've ever seen a USMC painted boxcar

Nice shots.  #1823 looks like it was a former Winchester & Western unit (possibly from South Jersey now transplanted into North Jersey)

That has a placard for the marines. The reporting marks say another RR. I've seen pics from the 1950's of USMC engines and cars.

Thanks.

I recognized the Marine colors on the boxcar right away

Reporting marks on both the Marine Corps box car and Geep #1823 are DRRV.

C&D purchased two W&W Geeps early Spring 2018, #732 and #811.  #811 is now BDRV #811 and is on the BDRV in Phillipsburg, NJ.  #732 is now DRRV #1823
