NS train 24R?
Author: dschlegel

According to HU the PRR heritage unit, NS 8102, is leading a 24R north at Berryville, VA, spotted at 4:17PM.

I am not familiar with this symbol, does anyone know where this train originates and terminates?

Thank you!
Dan

A baretable train usually runs north on H Line in early part of the week,  24R is number they have been using for a while

I ran a 24R about three weeks ago off the Columbia district.  It was mainly mty 40 ft. wells with a block of Linwood freight on rear with one Dash 9 for power.  Beautiful heavy night time snowfall.  Looked great with all the Christmas lights on.  Made up for the rough trip.

I've heard both 24R and 24Q symbols originating in North Charleston in the recent past. If 24R had a block of Linwood freight, it probably originated in North Charleston. Prior to abolishing 338, the Sunday only 24Q was combined with traffic that normally was carried on 338.

8102 is on 24R-01.  This particular 24R is Charlotte, NC - Knoxville Sevier, TN.

I could be reading this wrong but if it was the train through Berryville that would not be Charlotte to Knoxville.   I'm wondering if this symbol is used system wide for baretable moves.  I have seen this train before heading north on both the Piedmont and Roanoke Districts

8102 left Hagerstown last nite, still on 24R.  It left Charlotte Intermodal as a section of P88 (Chicago pig train).  It was resymboled 24R at Linwood.

They went north to Shippensburg, ran around the train and went back south.
